LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – “What’s Cool At School?” Music everywhere!
With hundreds of highly skilled – and highly trained – student musicians on stage at The Smith Center’s Reynolds Hall last week, the Las Vegas Academy’s choir, band and orchestra programs showcased why they’re among the best in the city, if not the entire state.
The school’s 13th annual fall concert for the community included various faculty members on the podium as well as Grammy-award winning composer Michael Daugherty with guest violinist Bethany Mennemeyer.
Las Vegas Philharmonic concertmaster De Ann Letourneau also whipped up a Shostakovich concerto and said she was as excited as the students.
The LVA’s development director, Megan Franke, who used to be the Choir Director, led the orchestra and choir in a song befitting of the school’s mission: “I Believe.”
Yes, there are other excellent performing arts high schools and middle schools in the CCSD, putting on amazing shows with excellent student performers.
But there’s only one “Las Vegas Academy” – and it’s always an honor to mc this event.
