It’s hoodie weather in many cities across the nation, where temperatures have shifted into the fall season.

But, in Southern Nevada, it still feels like summer.

Temperatures in Las Vegas crept over 100 degrees on Saturday, marking the 111th day in 2024 with temperatures in triple digits, the National Weather Service in Las Vegas said.

There were six days of temperatures over 100 degrees in Las Vegas in October from 1937 — when the weather service started charting temperatures — to 2023, it said. Saturday marked the sixth day this month with temperatures clearing 100 degrees.

And, on Thursday, temperatures reached 104 degrees to break the record for the hottest day in October. It was 103 degrees here in 1978, the weather service said.

The heat has been deadly, with Clark County reporting 342 fatalities last week. The number could be higher because it can take several months of investigation to determine if a death was caused by the heat, officials said.

Temperatures aren’t projected to reach 100 degrees this week, the weather service said. The high temperature will be 98 degrees on Tuesday, 96 degrees Wednesday-Friday, and 94 degrees on Saturday.

“This week will not be as hot with high temperatures gradually decreasing 5 to 8 degrees by Saturday,” the weather service posted on social media. “Even so, that is still around 10 degrees above normal for early October.”
