UNLV Rebels wide receiver Ricky White III (11) celebrates after running the ball during the first half of a NCAA football game against the Syracuse Orange, Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, in Las Vegas.

Ricky White is one of the best wide receivers in UNLV football history. He’s also a notable special teams performer.

White, an All-American last season after catching 81 passes for 1,386 yards and setting a school record with five straight games of more than 100 receiving yards, was named the Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday by the Mountain West.

He is the first player in program history to earn league honors in multiple categories.

White had two standout plays on special teams in the Rebels’ 44-41 overtime loss to Syracuse on Friday, including blocking a punt in the second half to produce a touchdown in helping UNLV erase a double-digit deficit.

The blocked punt rolled about 40 yards into the end zone, where freshman Charles Correa recovered for a touchdown.

In the first half, White broke through the line on a Syracuse punt attempt to force the punter to abandon the punt attempt for a 13-yard loss and turnover on downs. UNLV scored two plays later.

White’s night against Syracuse also included 10 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown, pushing him into seventh place on the UNLV career receiving yards list with 2,490 yards.
