LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A former weapons instructor who previously made controversial race-based statements about firearm safety faces charges for continuing to teach classes after his license was revoked, Las Vegas police said Wednesday.
On March 5, detectives arrested Nephi Oliva, 50, for fraudulently posing as a concealed carry weapons instructor in Nevada, despite his license being revoked on Aug. 7, 2023.
Police said they believe Oliva, who also uses the name Nephi Khaliki, continued teaching classes and would provide paperwork signed by an active CCW instructor, despite him teaching the classes.
Police arrested him on various felony charges, including forgery, fraud, or deceit in the course of the occupation, and using the personal identifying information of another person.
Oliva previously made headlines when a video of a Las Vegas conservative CCW event showed him showing a controversial slideshow with race-based slides titled “Firearm Safety for White People,” and “Firearm Safety for Black People,” in April 2022.
That event was held in a public library, with several Republican political candidates in attendance, including former Mayor of North Las Vegas John Lee and Assemblyman Tom Roberts.
Police ask that anyone who has information regarding the case or who took a CCW class taught by Oliva after Aug. 7, 2023, reach out to the LVMPD CCW Detail at 702-385-5555 or at ccwdetail@lvmpd.com
