This Week in Chinatown
Welcome to This Week in Chinatown (March 15th Edition)!
Buckle up, folks! Chinatown has been buzzing with activity lately, with some of our favorite restaurants experiencing hour-long waits – a delicious sign that spring has finally sprung! Despite some recent high winds and rain, warmer weather is near, with comfortable days reaching the low 70s and evenings dipping into the 50s – perfect weather for exploring the vibrant streets of Chinatown.
Speaking of excitement, the Oakland Athletics’ new Las Vegas stadium renderings have been unveiled, stirring up anticipation for the future of baseball in our city.
Let’s address the elephant in the room (or rather, the traffic cone monstrosity in the intersection): The Cone Report. Unfortunately, this has become a regular feature in “This Week in Chinatown” for the past two years.
The saga continues (with a vengeance): Those infernal traffic cones at Spring Mountain and Decatur haven’t moved an inch! To make matters worse, their evil empire has expanded past Rainbow Blvd.! As if the cones weren’t enough, the road itself is a warzone – torn, shredded, and a pothole-laced obstacle course. While we wouldn’t recommend citizens take matters into their own hands by purchasing buckets of tar (asking for a friend, are we?), we can all raise a collective voice and urge the city to address this mess!
But onto brighter things! As always, we’ll shift our focus to the positive energy that defines Chinatown. We’ll begin our exploration on the east side and make our way westward along beautiful Spring Mountain Rd.

Dive into Flavortown with Jong Ro Chicken’s Legendary Korean Fried Chicken!
Calling all fried chicken fanatics! This week, we’re taking a delicious detour to Chinatown favorite, Jong Ro Chicken, to explore the magic of Korean Fried Chicken (KFC…but hold the bucket!).
Korean Fried Chicken: A Flavor Explosion
Korean Fried Chicken, or KFC (not to be confused with the Colonel’s version!), has taken the world by storm. It’s more than just your average fried bird; it’s an explosion of flavor and texture that will leave you wanting more.
The key to KFC’s magic lies in the unique double-frying process. Unlike traditional fried chicken, Korean Fried Chicken is typically dunked twice in hot oil. This creates a phenomenally crispy, shatter-like crust that encases incredibly moist and juicy chicken on the inside.
Jong Ro Chicken: Raising the Bar on KFC
Here at Chinatown Vegas, we’re not shy about declaring Jong Ro Chicken our reigning champion of Korean Fried Chicken in the city. Their commitment to culinary excellence shines through in every bite.
They use only the freshest, highest-quality chicken, meticulously prepare it for frying, and then unleash the double-frying magic. The result? Perfection.
Beyond Crispy: Flavor Options Abound
While the crispy, juicy perfection of the chicken is the star of the show, Jong Ro Chicken offers a variety of flavor options to tantalize your taste buds. From the classic soy garlic glaze to the fiery spicy sauce, there’s a flavor profile to suit every craving.

Looking Back: A Year Ago in This Week in Chinatown (March 17, 2023)
Let’s take a memory lane trip to Chinatown on March 17, 2023!
Let’s journey back to March 17, 2023, and reminisce about the vibrant pulse of our neighborhood! On this memorable date, amidst the hustle and bustle, we excitedly announced the forthcoming arrival of a Korean Restaurant to replace Lau and Oc by Pho Real. Our community eagerly awaited this culinary transformation, and we were thrilled to share frequent updates as anticipation grew.
In addition to this exciting news, we also took delight in covering the spirited celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day across various spots in Chinatown. From festive decorations to special events, our community came together to honor this beloved tradition with flair and enthusiasm.
Furthermore, our coverage extended to the culinary scene, where we highlighted new menu items tantalizing taste buds at District 1, 85 Degrees, and other beloved eateries. Whether it was innovative flavors or classic favorites with a twist, Chinatown continued to be a hub of culinary creativity and exploration.
As we reflect on these moments from a year ago, we’re reminded of the dynamic energy and diversity that define our neighborhood. Stay tuned for more updates and fond memories as we continue to celebrate the rich tapestry of life in Chinatown!

That’s it for this week. Remember, what happens in Chinatown happens here!
