LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A person is dead after their vehicle caught fire in a high-speed hit-and-run crash in North Las Vegas.

On Sunday around 1:30 a.m., North Las Vegas police responded to the area of Centennial Parkway and Bruce Street after reports of a crash.

When officers arrived, one of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames while the other had significant damage to the front, police said.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department and medical personnel extinguished the fire and found a body inside the vehicle.

Police said a 2020 Dodge Challenger was driving westbound on Centennial Parkway at a high rate of speed behind a Hyundai Sonata. The Dodge crashed into the back of the Hyundai, causing it to catch fire.

The occupants of the Dodge fled the scene on foot. Police said speed and impairment are believed to be factors in the crash.
