LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – Stepping up for a school garden
After a summer fire damaged the garden shed and many of the tools inside, Dondero Elementary School Principal Brittney Williams had an idea about who could help them:
“Home Depot had partnered with us before, to expand and make our garden more functional, so I thought they would be a good resource to help us rebuild what had been lost.”
And boy, did they. Home Depot Assistant Manager Amanda Gunter:
”We have a couple composters so we can add on to our composting game so we can better fertilize the garden.”
They brought tools to rebuild and refill the shed. Volunteers from the company worked alongside students and staff to install everything. And now the fall planting season is underway
The Dondero grown-ups know that the garden promotes sustainability, teaches the kids about the environment – and (oh, by the way) provides fresh produce to the students, their families and the surrounding community.
