LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas has a rich Western history. Helldorado Days, formerly known as Las Vegas Days, has celebrated that history since 1935. The original festival only consisted of a parade, but in later years, the rodeo, carnival, and other entertainment were added to the event.
The first Helldorado Days Rodeo was held in 1936, and although it skipped some years, the tradition of Western fun remains strong. Events include bull riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, tie-down roping, horseback riding, and much more right in the heart of Las Vegas.
“There’s gonna be a lot of entertainment that’s suitable for the entire family,” said rodeo director and stock contractor Cody Flitton. “This is old town animals with modern-day cowboys coming to town and showing some of our acts, what we can do, and our talents.”
The two-day event will have a special theme each evening. Friday is Kids’ Night, dedicated to the next generation of rodeo stars and fans. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their brightest, boldest colors to go with the theme “The Future is Bright.” On Saturday evening, the Helldorado Days Rodeo will honor those who serve and protect our country with a special night of patriotism and pride. Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue for Military Night.
The Helldorado Days Rodeo also features free related western-themed events like mutton busting, a sheep riding competition for future cowboys and cowgirls, a Whiskerino contest, and a historical exhibit area.
The event is at the CORE Arena at the Plaza Hotel & Casino Nov. 8 – 9 at 5:30 p.m. The event is free, but you can purchase a ticket to guarantee your seat. To purchase tickets, visit this link.
