UNLV junior guard Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week following a two-game stretch that helped led the Rebels to victories over Boise State and San Jose State.

The Illinois transfer put together the best week of his college career, averaging 21.5 points, five assists and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field across the two wins.

Gibbs-Lawhorn’s breakout performance came Tuesday in an 89-85 overtime thriller against Boise State, where he erupted for a career-high 33 points while dishing out six assists. The 33-point outburst marked the highest single-game scoring total by a UNLV player since EJ Harkless scored 35 in the 2023 league tournament.

The Illinois transfer was nearly unstoppable in the overtime victory, connecting on 11 of 23 shots from the field and 9 of 12 from the free-throw line while adding five rebounds and a steal.

He followed up with a more balanced 10-point performance in Saturday’s 76-62 road win at San Jose State, shooting 4 of 7 from the field including 2 of 4 from beyond the arc. Gibbs-Lawhorn also contributed four rebounds and four assists without committing a turnover in the victory.

The weekly honor is the first of Gibbs-Lawhorn’s career and marks the first Player of the Week award for UNLV this season. Freshman Tyrin Jones previously earned Freshman of the Week honors on Dec. 23.
