Breaking News

Corridor Watch: Win Kee Targeting Shanghai Plaza

Last week, ChinatownVegas.com first reported that Win Kee HK BBQ & Noodle is preparing to take over the former Sinh Sinh space inside Shanghai Plaza.

Multiple reliable sources indicate a projected April 2026 opening. However, ownership has not yet publicly confirmed whether the move represents a full relocation from the southwest or an expansion into the Spring Mountain core.

Win Kee HK BBQ Shanghai Plaza former Sinh Sinh storefront in Las Vegas Chinatown

The former Sinh Sinh space at Shanghai Plaza in Las Vegas Chinatown is expected to become the newest location for Win Kee HK BBQ, with a projected April 2026 opening.

Either way, this is significant.

As we recently documented, with the corridor surpassing 248 sit-down restaurants, established operators continue to position themselves within Chinatown’s highest-traffic plazas — a clear signal that consolidation into the core is accelerating.

We’re actively monitoring this developing story and will update readers as soon as official confirmation is announced.

A Psychological Thriller in the Heart of the Neighborhood
While Chinatown is famous for its world-class dining, it is also home to one of the city’s most enduring cultural gems: the Las Vegas Little Theatre. This week, the Sin City Players return to the stage with a production that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Starting Friday, February 27th, catch Rebecca Gilman’s acclaimed psychological thriller, Boy Gets Girl.

The story follows Theresa Bedell, a successful New York journalist who agrees to a blind date that starts as a simple romantic pursuit but quickly spirals into a terrifying nightmare of obsession and danger. Following their sold-out run of Nights at the Algonquin Round Table, the Sin City Players bring a gripping, “edge-of-your-seat” intensity to this modern cautionary tale.

Showtimes for this week:
Friday, Feb 27: 8:00 PM
Saturday, Feb 28: 8:00 PM
Sunday, March 1: 2:30 PM (Matinee)

Location: Las Vegas Little Theatre (Black Box), 3920 Schiff Drive (just off Spring Mountain Rd)
Tickets: $25 General Admission / $15 Students (18 and younger)
Note: Due to adult subject matter, this production is recommended for mature audiences only.

Whether you’re grabbing a late-night bowl of ramen after the Friday show or heading to a Dim Sum brunch before the Sunday matinee, make sure to include a dose of local theater in your Chinatown plans this week.

Looking Back

A look back at "vintage" Chinatown

A look back at time of Las Vegas Chinatown

The Anchor That Built a District
Featuring: 99 Ranch Market (Spring Mountain)

Before the neon, before the 248-restaurant milestone, before Spring Mountain Road became one of America’s densest culinary corridors — there was 99 Ranch Market.

When the Spring Mountain location opened in 1995, the surrounding area was still largely industrial and underdeveloped. Anchoring the newly built Chinatown Plaza, the market became the commercial proof-of-concept that an Asian-centered retail district could thrive in Southern Nevada.

99 ranch market-098

A Rare Franchise
Unlike most corporate-operated stores nationwide, the Spring Mountain location was opened as a franchise by Jason Chen, nephew of founder Roger H. Chen. For 14 years, it remained the only 99 Ranch in Nevada, serving as both grocery hub and cultural gathering place for a growing community.

Small but Historic
By today’s standards, the original store is modest — even tiny — especially compared to newer-generation locations. The recently opened Summerlin (Boca Park) store features a significantly larger footprint, modern finishes, expanded prepared foods, and upgraded bakery concepts that rival the scale and presentation of H Mart.

But the Spring Mountain store wasn’t built to impress — it was built to establish something. And it did.

The Deli Difference & the Sam Woo Ties
Longtime locals often mention the historic relationship between the market and its neighboring BBQ institution, Sam Woo BBQ. While most California 99 Ranch locations featured hanging roast duck and char siu counters, the Spring Mountain store focused primarily on groceries. Sam Woo — located just steps away — became the Plaza’s designated destination for Cantonese roast meats.

Whether formal or simply organic evolution, the ecosystem worked. The anchor drew the traffic. The specialists built loyalty. And together, they created the early rhythm of Chinatown Plaza.

Today, newer Nevada locations reflect the brand’s modern expansion. But the original Spring Mountain store remains the cornerstone — small in size, enormous in impact — where Las Vegas Chinatown’s journey truly began.

Chinatown Gripes

Chinatown Gripes: Highlighting unresolved issues in Las Vegas Chinatown.

For years now, we’ve been posting this. And for years now, nothing has changed.

The speed limit on Spring Mountain remains 45 mph — in a pedestrian-heavy dining corridor.
The potholes are still ferocious and suspension-destroying.
Left turns out of strip malls continue to create daily choke points.
Traffic light timers remain out of sync, backing up the corridor for no good reason.
Bus stops and pickup/drop-off zones are still positioned in ways that block lanes and create unnecessary congestion.

Same issues. Same silence.

We will continue to document it — until larger voices echo it, or someone with the authority to act decides this neighborhood deserves better.

Share your own gripes (or bright-side workarounds) with #ChinatownVegasVibes — the more we talk about it, the harder it is to ignore.
