Breaking News
Breaking News: ChinatownVegas.com delivers real-time updates from the heart of Las Vegas Chinatown.
New Ownership Takes Over Former Mr. BBQ Space; Mr. Kim’s Soft Opens
A quick-turnover move on Spring Mountain is already complete. Mr. Kim’s Korean BBQ has officially soft-opened at 4240 Spring Mountain Road, taking over the space previously occupied by the California-based chain Mr. BBQ. This is not a rebrand — it’s a full transition.
A new ownership group launched an entirely new concept less than two weeks after the former tenant vacated. This shows just how fast prime Chinatown real estate moves. The restaurant sits in the plaza just east of Shanghai Plaza and has already refreshed its exterior signage and begun early service.
Expect a modern, tech-forward vibe with automated meat and banchan delivery. The restaurant is currently in soft opening mode. More details on the full menu and grand opening are expected soon. As always, we’ll keep tracking it.
Pho Concept Sets April 24 Soft Opening — First Week Brings 20% Off
One of Chinatown’s most closely watched restaurant transitions is officially entering its next phase. Pho Concept, the new Vietnamese dining concept taking over the former Pho So 1 space, has announced a soft opening date of April 24.
For its debut week, the restaurant is offering 20% off the entire check. This gives early diners a first look at what’s replacing a 30+ year Chinatown staple. This marks a broader shift along the Spring Mountain corridor toward more modern concepts.
The restaurant is located at 4745 W Spring Mountain Rd and has a refreshed interior design and branding.
Pro Tip: Expect crowds during the first week. Arrive early to take advantage of the 20% off and avoid the peak dinner rush. We’ll be there.
Pepper Lunch at Shanghai Plaza Shutters Following Court-Ordered Eviction
The ever-evolving Chinatown corridor saw a sudden shakeup this week as Pepper Lunch, located in Shanghai Plaza (4258 Spring Mountain Rd), has officially ceased operations.
As of April 16, 2026, the restaurant has been closed and the space sealed by the Las Vegas Justice Court following a court-ordered eviction. The storefront is currently not accessible to the public, marking an abrupt halt for the popular DIY teppan-style concept in the heart of the plaza.
At this time, it remains unclear whether this is a temporary legal situation or a permanent closure. Given the high-profile location within one of Chinatown’s busiest plazas, the future of this space will be closely watched.
As always, we’re on it. Stay tuned—we’ll continue to track what’s next for this key Shanghai Plaza location and update you as soon as more details emerge.
Live Performance Spotlight
The Sand Dollar Lounge keeps the live music energy rolling this week with a mix of late-night sets, pre-parties, and returning favorites.
As always: no cover, strong cocktails, and one of the most reliable live music stages in the corridor. The venue is open daily from 4 PM to 4 AM.
Here’s the lineup for the week:
Monday (April 20): No Events
Tuesday (April 21): Swayze & Friends at 10 PM
Wednesday (April 22): Darius Jackson at 6 PM
Thursday (April 23): Phish Live Streaming Viewing Party at 8 PM, followed by Marcus Rezak & Friends at 11:30 PM
Friday (April 24): Carlos Guerrero & Friends at 5 PM, Phish Live Streaming Viewing Party at 8 PM, and Blü Egyptian at 10 PM
Saturday (April 25): The People’s Dead! (Pre Party!) at 5 PM, Phish Live Streaming Viewing Party at 8 PM, and THE ALL YOU CAN EAT ORCHESTRA at 10 PM
Sunday (April 26): Red Eye Gin Sunday Show! at 10 PM
From jam-heavy late nights to pre-show energy and Sunday closeout vibes, Sand Dollar stays one of Chinatown’s most dependable nightlife anchors.
Pro Tip: Friday and Saturday stack multiple events, so those are your best bets if you want the room at full energy.

Community Corner
Spring Mountain’s wellness scene continues to evolve — and one longtime staple is officially stepping into its next chapter.
Formerly known as Zen Foot Spa, Zen Spa & Massage has completed its rebrand, signaling a clear shift toward full-service, modern wellness in the heart of Chinatown.
A sanctuary of tranquility in the heart of Las Vegas Chinatown.
This is more than a name change. The updated concept expands beyond reflexology into a broader menu of services, including lymphatic drainage, traditional Thai massage, facials, nail care, and more.
The goal? Delivering a well-rounded, professional self-care experience that fits right into the rhythm of the corridor.
In a district known for leveling up across dining, retail, and entertainment, this move reflects a growing demand for elevated — but still accessible — wellness options.
Whether you’re recovering after a long week or pairing a spa visit with a Chinatown food run, Zen Spa & Massage is positioning itself as a go-to reset spot along Spring Mountain.

Looking Back
Before the crispy katsu, before the curry cravings, and before it quietly built a loyal following in the corridor, Tora Katsu & Curry was just a promise on a banner.
This throwback photo takes us back to that “COMING SOON” moment — when the space was still quiet, the doors closed, and the concept was beginning to take shape.

Even then, the identity was clear: a focused Japanese katsu-and-curry spot with clean design cues and a no-frills, comfort-first approach.
In a corridor where openings come fast and competition is relentless, not every “coming soon” sign turns into something that sticks.
But Tora did exactly that — carving out its lane by doing one thing well and keeping it consistent.
It’s a reminder of how quickly things move in Chinatown. Today’s “coming soon” is tomorrow’s neighborhood staple… and if you blink, you might miss the moment before it all begins.
Chinatown Gripes
Gripes: Here We Go Again at Decatur
It’s becoming a broken record at this point, but Spring Mountain and Decatur have claimed another victim.
In the early hours of Monday morning, around 4:40 AM, a vehicle slammed into a bus at our district’s most notorious intersection.
While the driver luckily walked away with only minor injuries, Metro suspects impairment played a role.
Whether it’s reckless driving or the ongoing infrastructure headaches, this intersection continues to be a magnet for trouble.
We’re still waiting for word on if any bus passengers were caught in the mix, but one thing is certain: we need more than just luck to stay safe at this crossing.
Stay sharp out there, Chinatown.
