LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The driver accused in a hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead had a revoked license and previous DUI conviction, according to his arrest report. When he turned himself in, police said he appeared to be under the influence.
Justin David Marr, 27, is facing charges for allegedly causing two hit-and-run crashes in North Las Vegas shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23. The woman, who was not in a crosswalk, was struck and killed at the first scene near Civic Center Drive and E. Owens Avenue.
The report said the woman’s body came to rest 130 feet from where she was struck by the utility work truck. At least three witnesses, including one whose vehicle was also hit by the truck, told police Marr was “driving in a reckless manner which included speeding and making abrupt lane changes to pass vehicles.”
The morning following the crash, police released an image of the work truck to the public and received a tip from a person who gave them Marr’s name and the location of the truck. Officers impounded the vehicle at a local solar company where the owner said he had permitted Marr to use it. The arrest report stated Marr lied to his boss about how the truck was damaged.
Marr, who smelled of alcohol, was arrested after he turned himself in at the North Las Vegas Police records bureau about 20 hours after the deadly crash, documents said.
He would not discuss the crash with the police and requested an attorney.
According to the Clark County District Attorney’s office, Marr is facing the following charges:
- Duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death or personal injury (2 counts)
- Reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm (2 counts)
He is being held without bail at the North Las Vegas Detention and Corrections facility. He is scheduled to be arraigned in North Las Vegas Justice Court on Sept. 30.
