LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The suspect of a shooting who fled from police before crashing his vehicle was found with a dead body in the front seat of the vehicle, police said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) detectives were investigating a homicide near the intersection of Pecos Road and East Charleston Boulevard in east Las Vegas Sunday morning.

LVMPD officials said dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 8:15 a.m. from someone saying they had received a call from a friend. The friend had told the 911 caller that he had just shot his girlfriend. The caller provided dispatchers with a description of the vehicle and the location where the vehicle could be found.

When officers arrived, they found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. At that point, police said the vehicle fled before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Pecos Road and East Charleston Boulevard.

Law enforcement officials said they were able to take the suspect, identified only as a man in his 20s, into custody. While apprehending the suspect, officers found a woman dead in the front seat of the vehicle with a gunshot wound.
