LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A suspect accused of robbing a man in a Las Vegas Strip hotel parking garage in February and fleeing to California is now in the Clark County Detention Center and facing charges.

Zac Zachery, 43, is accused of robbery with a deadly weapon and battery to commit robbery with a deadly weapon.

The alleged robbery occured on Feb. 12 around 8:30 a.m. in the Treasure Island Hotel parking garage.

According to the arrest warrant, Zachary was armed with a handgun and approached a tourist sitting in his vehicle with the door partially opening. The victim told police the suspect struck him on the head several times and demanded his property.

The victim said he gave the suspect an Oakley crossbody bag with debit and credit cards, his identification, and around $1,000 in cash. The suspect then fled toward a garage exit.

Documents said a witness in the car next to the robbery victim said he was asleep in his car when the victim’s car door hit his car and woke him and he witnessed the two men struggling. That witness followed the suspect and took photos and video of him as he fled the garage.

Police also obtained surveillance videos of the suspect which showed him arriving at the parking garage in a car later identified as a rental vehicle and a woman in the passenger seat.

Documents said the car was rented in Lancaster, California. Police said the car’s license plate was scanned at several Las Vegas locations before heading south on I-15 in February. Metro immediately alerted California Highway Patrol who took Zachary into custody in Baker.

During a search of the rental car, police found a handgun, ammunition, a large quantity of marijuana including scales and packing, prepaid Visa debit gift cards, and the suspect’s Oakley bag, cellphone, and social security card, according to the arrest warrant.

Zachary was held at the High Desert Detention Center in San Bernardino County until he was moved to Clark County Detention Center on Oct. 19.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 4, 2024.
