LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Comic book lovers have a reason to celebrate. National Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 3. It’s a day when comic book retailers give away free comics.

It’s an annual event where comic shops nationwide give away specially printed issues from major publishers like Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and more.

“Show up Saturday and you’ll walk out with free comics,” said Jay Bosworth, the owner of Maximum Comics. He said he will also have bonus giveaways at his shop. Bosworth gave a sneak peek at some of the titles being released.

Some of the notable free comics include:

  • Archie’s Comics Spectacular
  • Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender
  • Speed Racer #0
  • Minecraft: The Manga/BeyBladeX
  • Lost Marvels
  • Iron Man & His Awesome Friends
  • Star Wars #1
  • Transformers: Worst Bot Ever

To promote the event, members of the Las Vegas Star Wars Collective, a nonprofit group of volunteers who dress in screen-accurate Star Wars costumes to spread joy throughout the valley. Emmeline Deville, one of the collective’s members, shared how meaningful it is to visit children in local hospitals, hand out toys, and bring a little light to both the kids and their families.

The group has a busy weekend ahead; they’ll be visiting hospitals on Friday for May the Fourth be With You, a Star Wars celebration, and even appearing at the Las Vegas Aviators game on Saturday.
