LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Lace up those bowling shoes because Bowl for the Gold is back. It is one of Special Olympic Nevada’s most popular fundraising events of the year to support athletes with intellectual disabilities.
“The great thing about Bowl for the Gold is everything we raise here, stays here in Nevada to support our Special Olympics athletes in our four programming areas,” said Allyce Pierson, senior director of Development & Community Engagement for Special Olympics Nevada.
Special Olympics Nevada aims to create inclusive opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities in the areas of sports, health, education, and leadership development. The organization offers year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Bowl for the Gold is Special Olympics Nevada’s annual event to bring the community together for an afternoon of fun family-friendly competition while raising money.
Each registration includes food and beverages and three games of bowling. But this is not your traditional bowling challenge. The three rounds include “goofy bowl,” where you are challenged to do silly things while knocking down some pins, “score bowl” to earn the most points, and “just for fun bowl” which is not competitive, just fun. Participants will also have the opportunity to play alongside Special Olympic Nevada athletes.
This year, the event will also feature a dessert auction. Local bakeries are offering their sweets to help raise money for the organization.
Bowl for the Gold takes place Saturday, Sept. 7 at Strike Zone Bowling Center inside Sunset Station. The fundraising event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To register, visit this link.
