LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center hosted a science and robotics event for local Las Vegas students to explore cutting-edge robotic technology.
A variety of life-saving technology and state-of-the-art hospital robots were on display, with physicians and educators sharing with hundreds of students how the robots work for the “Science Is Everywhere” event.
“This event is so exciting because it gets these young kids in here early on, and they get really excited about the possibility of joining healthcare as their career,” Chief Nursing Officer Courtney Ogle said.
Activities at the event included hands-on robotic experiments and a teddy bear clinic where the students dressed up as doctors and learned how to care for patients themselves.

Second grader Evelyn attended the event with her mom and siblings and took home her fluffy patient.
“His name is Teddy, and I checked his weight and his height, and I gave him a cast, and I checked his heartbeat,” Evelyn said.
The students also learned how to perform surgeries on their teddy bear patients. The event aims to promote an interest in STEM and healthcare among the younger generation.
“This is a really fun process to do using robotics and surgery,” orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brian Carr said. “We don’t have enough kids going into medicine nowadays. Anything that we can do to generate interest in technology and in medicine is great.”
