LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two inches of snow on Lee Canyon brought hundreds of skiers and snowboarders to the mountain on Christmas day, almost as if the snowfall was delivered by sleigh.

“I came because it’s Christmas and where better to spend Christmas than in the snow,” Gwen Meloney, a snowboarder said from atop the mountain.

Meloney, who got a late start on the slopes, was “ready to shred” when she found herself being questioned by a reporter.

“It’s kind of a blessing,” Meloney said. “I bought my lift ticket at the beginning of the month and then it snowed last night and I was like, hoorah.”

Two friends, T.J. Ropelato and Sebastian Lafavor, were also planning “some more shredding” after a trip to the bar inside the mountain’s ski lodge. They also planned on snowboarding on Christmas but the extra inches of snow brought them to the slopes a little earlier than normal.

“The extra snow does help a lot,” Lafavor said. “It’s the best Christmas gift. If you don’t have snow, it’s like a no-go.”

Christian Best, the resort services director at Lee Canyon said the crowds have been steady this winter, as the slopes are open every day, all winter.

“It’s a great turnout during this holiday period,” Best said. “Christmas to us is, you know, another beautiful day out here on the slopes. Again, it was great to have Mother Nature kind of come in and bring us some snow.”

According to Lee Canyon’s website, it has seen $17 million worth of improvements over the last five years.
