Brown is once again dodging questions and silent while Republicans try to keep stripping away reproductive freedom

After spending weeks dodging questions about whether he would support IVF protections, Sam Brown is now refusing to condemn the upcoming Supreme Court case that could greatly restrict access to the abortion medication Mifepristone across the country. Mifepristone has been approved by the FDA and widely used for more than two decades. Brown’s silence confirms once again that he is an anti-abortion extremist who would vote against reproductive rights if elected to the Senate.

When asked directly what his stance was on the upcoming Supreme Court hearing on Mifepristone, Brown said: “The court will hear their argument and make their case, and we will wait and see what the courts do.”

Brown’s strong support for overturning Roe v. Wade opened the door for new attacks like this on women’s reproductive rights

Brown’s decade-long extreme anti-abortion history includes:

  • Supporting an extreme abortion ban in Texas with no exceptions for rape or incest that was considered one of the “toughest restrictions in the country” as a candidate in 2014.
  • Serving as the local president of a national anti-choice organization that has backed a nationwide abortion ban, called Roe v. Wade a “moral atrocity,” and praised Texas’ six-week abortion ban.
  • Saying he “would not vote for someone who would continue to support Roe v. Wade” and that he considered whether or not someone understood the importance of protecting life a litmus test for potential Supreme Court Justices.

Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Katharine Kurz

“Sam Brown has a proven track record of supporting anti-abortion efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade and embracing an extreme agenda taking away reproductive freedom that is dangerous for women and unpopular with voters. As right-wing judges threaten the most commonly used abortion pill, Brown’s refusal to condemn these extreme attacks on medication that has been approved by the FDA for 20 years and safely used by over 5 million women in America is more proof that he would be a direct threat to abortion rights in the Senate.”
