Brown pushed to overturn Roe v. Wade, opening the door for extreme attacks like this on reproductive rights

Today, the Supreme Court begins hearing arguments for a case that could restrict access to the FDA-approved abortion medication mifepristone, which has been used safely by women for decades. MAGA extremist Sam Brown refused to condemn the upcoming case and when asked directly what his stance was on the upcoming case, Brown said: “The court will hear their arguments and make their case, and that’s something that will, you know, we’ll wait and see what the courts do.”

Brown’s strong support for overturning Roe v. Wade opened the door for new attacks like this on women’s reproductive rights. His decade-long extreme anti-abortion history includes:

  • Supporting an extreme abortion ban in Texas with no exceptions for rape or incest that was considered one of the “toughest restrictions in the country” as a candidate in 2014.
  • Serving as the local president of a national anti-choice organization that has backed a nationwide abortion ban, called Roe v. Wade a “moral atrocity,” and praised Texas’ six-week abortion ban.
  • Saying he “would not vote for someone who would continue to support Roe v. Wade” and that he considered whether or not someone understood the importance of protecting life a litmus test for potential Supreme Court Justices.

Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Katharine Kurz

“Sam Brown has spent his entire political career supporting an extreme anti-abortion agenda, including overturning Roe v. Wade, which opened the door for these dangerous attacks on reproductive rights. Brown has always supported anti-abortion Supreme Court justices, and now, when reproductive rights are once again at risk because of the nation’s highest court, Brown is refusing to stand up for a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.”
