LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The reward leading to an arrest in Reba’s death has doubled to $50,000, thanks to a donation made by a large, no-kill rescue in Florida.
As 8 News Now first reported in July, the English Bulldog was dumped in a plastic tub in the extreme heat near Maryland Parkway and Katie Avenue, near Flamingo Road.
Two weeks after her death, the search for the person responsible is making waves across the nation.
“This person who did this to her,” Megan Tomlinson said. “Did not realize that they had woken up a lion.”
Tomlinson, Rescue Coordinator for Vegas Pet Rescue Project spoke on the non-profit’s efforts to care for Reba after she was discovered.
The rescue also spearheaded efforts to raise a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and placed 48 billboards around the city last week.
“We heard about it from numerous people,” Lauree Simmons, Founder and President of Big Dog Ranch Rescue said. “That were outraged by this heinous crime.
Simmons said Big Dog Ranch, the largest no-kill rescue in the U.S., has stepped up to help.
With help from an anonymous donor, they have doubled the reward to $50,000 and hired private detectives to ramp up the search.
“Hopefully her death won’t go in vain,” Simmons said. “Hopefully this person is found, somebody steps forward, somebody has got to know something.”
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have also doubled down to ask the public for answers.
“We need a tip from the community,” LVMPD Sergeant William Gethoefer said. “We need someone to come forward with a tip about what happened to Reba.”
Tomlinson called this all a true example of the difference Reba has made and she hopes this movement inspired by her memory will continue to make change.
“It’s been sad, it’s been impressive, it’s been heartbreaking,” Tomlinson concluded. “We need to show the world that we take the care of our animals very very seriously.”
According to Nevada law, the person connected to the crime could face up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
