LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Concerned residents living in the Southern Highlands area, told 8 News Now they have noticed large groups of children riding their bikes through the streets, disrupting traffic and putting lives at risk.
“The less scared they are, the more danger they are going to take on and one of them is going to get hit,” Beth Krerowicz a south valley resident shared.
Mobs of children riding their bikes through traffic, bumping into cars and people. She and others say the behavior has been going on for years, however, recently it’s become more reckless.
“A lot of people have been approached by these kids and harrassed in the park and in Smith’s. They go after older folks, our seniors, and people with kids. It’s dangerous,” Krerowicz added.
She told 8 News Now she had her own run-in with a group of children who approached her car.
“He came right up next to my window and grabbed onto my mirror. I beeped my horn and then they left,” she shared.
Fellow resident, Ben Haney wants the parents of these children to realize how dangerous of a situation they are creating.
“They’re doing wheelies and weaving in traffic and it makes us uneasy. For them, they know what they are going to do, but we don’t know what they are going to do,” Haley said.
“I just wish the parents were more involved. If you got your kid a nice e-bike, take a look at what they are doing when they are out alone,” Haney added.
8 News Now reached out to Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones who said that he was aware of the problem and released the following statement.
“I share the neighbors’ concerns with regard to safety in the Southern Highlands and Mountain’s Edge areas and I’m looking forward to meeting with neighbors and with LVMPD Enterprise Area Command to address these concerns.” – Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones
