LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Repairs to a private water system within a residential community in Henderson have been made, according to City of Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero.
The underground plumbing repairs had been at the center of a dispute between Somerset Park residents and the community’s homeowners association board. The city agreed to repair the water system after initial statements that the neighborhood could be condemned.
8 News Now first reported on the matter in August after residents in the Somerset Park neighborhood were in shock when they found a letter from the City of Henderson posted on their door, telling them if their HOA didn’t fix a long-standing water leak, they’d have their water shut off and have to move out.
The repairs included replacing over 85 underground laterals and the final cost remained within the budget approved by the City Council, according to Mayor Romero.
The City of Henderson plans on continuing to contact Somerset residents on the next steps, and an agenda item will be placed on an upcoming city council meeting to approve the assessment, Mayor Romero added.
The full statement from Mayor Romero is provided below.
“Crews have successfully completed repairing the underground plumbing issues at Somerset Park. This involved replacing over 85 underground laterals, removing hazardous structures, and making necessary repairs to stabilize the community to safety standards and comply with City Codes, all aimed at protecting resident welfare. “I am pleased that the City was able to step in and successfully repair the underground water leaks and that we were able to keep Somerset residents in their homes. I want to acknowledge our City departments and the partners who helped with the coordinated construction effort and thank the community for their patience and cooperation as we worked as quickly as possible to resolve these critical issues with little disruption,” said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero. The final cost remained within the budget approved by the City Council. The City will continue to contact Somerset residents on the next steps. An agenda item will be placed on an upcoming City Council meeting to approve the assessment.
