LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — From the highways to the skies, it’s expected to be a record-breaking Labor Day weekend for traveling.

According to AAA, travel in the U.S. is expected to be up 9% compared to 2023. Meanwhile, at airports, the Transportation Security Administration is preparing for an 8.5% increase over 2023.

Parking at Harry Reid International Airport is expected to be in high demand and travelers should plan for extra time to find a parking spot. Terminal 1’s long-term and economy parking is expected to be full through Saturday, Aug. 31.

Air travelers are also advised to expect long lines at ticket counters, TSA security checkpoints, shuttle bus stops, and taxi lines. In addition, there are also overnight lane closures (11 p.m.-4 a.m.) in the southbound Airport Connector Tunnel for maintenance.

While air travelers are experiencing some reductions in air fares, it’s even better for those traveling by vehicle. Gas prices are down from last year. The national average gas price last year over the Labor Day weekend was $3.81 per gallon. This year, GasBuiddy predicts the average price of gas on Labor Day will be $3.27 per gallon.
