LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After nearly seven months without measurable rain, the Las Vegas valley expects rain, and even snow at higher elevations Thursday.
A light rain started falling in the early morning hours in the southeast valley near Boulder City and Henderson, and the far west valley near Red Rock Canyon and Summerlin. The showers will become more widespread as the day advances.
8 News Now Traffic Anchor Nate Tannenbaum urges drivers to be especially careful.
“With the lack of rain, even a little sprinkle makes the roads slippery,” he said.
The RTC reported several crashes around the valley in the early morning hours. However, it’s not known if those crashes were related to the weather.
8 News Now Weather Anchor Sherry Swensk said the forecast is calling for widespread showers throughout the day that will get heavier by the late afternoon and early evening. Snowfall is expected on nearby mountains, anywhere from 12 to 24 inches. A “severe” winter storm warning is in effect until Friday afternoon for the Spring Mountains, including Red Rock Canyon, and the Sheep Range.
