Las Vegas and surrounding areas are bracing for wet weather on New Year’s Eve, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast comes as approximately 300,000 revelers prepare to gather on the Las Vegas Strip for midnight celebrations.
“Could we see a soggy New Year’s Eve?” the weather service posted on X this morning. “Rainfall chances are increasing with most areas expected to see light rain by midnight. Light rain will likely continue through much of Thursday before tapering off. Winds will generally remain light across the region.”
Precipitation chances in the Las Vegas Valley begin at just 5% early Wednesday but climb steadily throughout the day, reaching 60% by evening and peaking at 65% overnight into the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. Rain is expected to persist through much of Thursday, with chances holding between 60%-70% before dropping to 40% by evening.
Temperatures on New Year’s Eve will range from the low 50s in the evening to the high 40s by early Thursday morning. New Year’s Day will remain cool, with temperatures staying in the upper 40s to low 50s throughout the day.
Other regional locations—including Death Valley-Furnace Creek, Laughlin, and Pahrump—are forecast to see similar rainfall patterns Wednesday and Thursday.
