LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Several puppies who were initially found in a Las Vegas valley dumpster last week are safe in a new foster home with their mother.

Wagging Tails Rescue stepped in to help take in Zoey and her eight puppies over the weekend, according to The Animal Foundation. The rescue lovingly nicknamed the family of dogs “Zoey and her Zoo.” Each puppy will also soon be named after a zoo animal.

According to The Animal Foundation, Zoey and her puppies will stay together as a family until the pups are eating well on their own. After that, they will split the litter in half so the pups can get more socialization while still being together.

On Thursday, the 2-week-old puppies were found in a trash bag that was tossed into a dumpster. Inside the bag with the pups was an unknown cleaning product. Meanwhile, the person accused of dumping the puppies was said to be in police custody.
