LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man allegedly stabbed another passenger on an RTC bus during an argument, according to documents 8 News Now obtained.
Maurice Carroll 56, faces charges of attempted murder and battery, records said.
On Oct. 22, Carroll allegedly stabbed a person two times with a large hunting knife while on the bus, police said. Carroll then got off the bus near Stewart and Eastern avenues and called 911. The victim survived.
In an interview with police, Carroll said he acted in self-defense after three people allegedly yelled racial slurs at him, documents said. Carroll also told officers he believed the stabbing victim “was going to shoot him.”
Witnesses told police Carroll and the victim, who appeared intoxicated, were arguing before the stabbing, documents said.
During Carroll’s initial court appearance, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Rebecca Saxe set bail at $10,000, records said. Carroll remained in custody as of Wednesday. Should he post bond, Carroll would be required to wear a GPS bracelet and not possess any weapons.
Carroll was wanted on a bench warrant for a 2020 battery charge, records said. In that case, Carroll pleaded no contest on Wednesday and his case was closed.
Amid several high-profile violent incidents last year, the RTC added more security guards and technologies to its buses.
