LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Parents shared their frustrations with 8 News Now over the lack of care they say Centennial Hills Park has received in recent years.
The parents claim that due to the influx of trash and broken down equipment, it’s no longer their top choice in places to bring their kids.
“There’s five slides on this playground and every single one of them is chained off. They can’t use one of them,” parent, Jennifer Ford told 8 News Now.
“It is a bummer that the slides are constantly closed. They’ll open up for what seems like a week or two and then it’ll go right back to being closed,” Parent, John Padilla said.
The City of Las Vegas said is aware of the broken slides and shared with 8 News Now that they plan to replace the playground in its entirety by adding new soft surfacing. The city also shared that they have a current design in place, but no word on when construction will start.
As for the trash, the city said that its parks are scheduled to have restrooms cleaned, litter removed, and trash cans checked daily. The city also said it’s the Deputy City Marshals’ responsibility to monitor park conditions.
Parents like Quiana Golden said even so she would like to see more effort put into the surrounding area.
“This being the closest park to my house, it’s not my first choice. From the debris from the trees and the lawn and then regular trash from people that are picnicking or homeless people that are not cleaning up after themselves, it can be tough to enjoy,” Golden said.
