A relative newcomer to Hong Kong’s baking scene Panda Bakery debuted during the pandemic, but thanks to dedicated ownership including Taiwanese Baker Cheng Hsien Lin the Wan Chai shop has thrived without relying on #instagram inventions or overpriced novelties.
Located at Wan Chai Road 234, hours from 10h00 until 20h00 daily finding a wide range of Baked goods plus souvenirs, Pineapple Cakes – not to be confused with Pineapple Buns – are a best-seller thanks to natural sweetness and a chewy texture while Wife Cakes are on par with what can be found elsewhere.
Less impressed with a Mochi Red Bean Cake, the Glutinous Rice too thick and chewy, fans of Egg Tarts won’t find any at Panda Bakery but instead “Sunshine Milk Tarts” nearly twice as tall and more like Custard whether yellow or Pandan green.
