LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — About 15 boats were damaged or destroyed in an overnight fire that broke out at Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina in Lake Mead Recreation Area, according to National Parks Services.
NPS officials reported that the fire broke out on Sunday around 12:30 a.m. Emergency personnel responded to the fire and it was contained within hours. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to NPS.
About 15 boats were damaged or destroyed in the fire and the owners of the affected boats have been notified of damages by staff. The marina will remain open to the public however, NPS officials issued a partial closure of the R and I harbor docks as the investigation remains ongoing.
Visitors are asked to use caution when accessing Hemenway Harbor and the open portions of Las Vegas Boat Harbor due to potential safety concerns, NPS said.
