LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — March is Social Work Month, a time to recognize social workers and the good they do each day in our communities. This year’s theme is “Empowering Social Workers” as social workers empower people to improve their lives, whether young or old.

Social workers are in every facet of community life, including hospitals, mental health clinics, senior centers, the military, and numerous private and public agencies. They meet the needs of their various clients by connecting them to a variety of services and resources that best suit them.

“Social workers do so much for the community. They’re often overlooked. Their work isn’t necessarily highlighted on a regular basis, but what they do for the community – they improve so many people’s lives, including the community,” said Alexandra Hoops, Director of Adoption Services, Loving Hearts Adoption Services. “Social Worker Month is just an opportunity to highlight them and spread awareness and recognize them for the work that they do.” 

Loving Hearts Adoption Services provide social services, particularly to pregnant women interested in adoption, as well as families that want to adopt a child.

Some social workers help clients who face a disability or a life-threatening disease or social problems such as inadequate housing, unemployment, or substance abuse. Others assist families dealing with serious domestic conflicts, sometimes involving a child or spousal abuse. Many social workers also specialize in serving a particular population or working in a specific setting. The thing they all have in common though is the desire to meet their client’s needs and empower them to overcome, recover from, or adjust to their situation.
