LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police identified the officers involved in Friday’s shooting at a northwest Las Vegas valley gym that left two people dead, including the shooter.
LVMPD identified the officers as Kaid Urban, 29, with the department since 2020; Skeeter Black, 44, employed since 2015; and Aaron Javier, 37, with the department since 2016.
All three officers are assigned to the Community Safety Division under the Bolden Area Command. They have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident, police said.
Just after 1:30 p.m. Friday, Metro police responded to a report of a shooting at the Las Vegas Athletic Club (LVAC) on North Rainbow Boulevard near Lake Mead Boulevard.
When officers approached the building, they encountered the suspect, who was armed with a firearm, Capt. Esmerelda Boveda said during a Friday evening briefing. The shooter then ran out of the door, and officers fired at him multiple times, police said.
Medical personnel took the shooter to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
Edgar Quinonez, who had worked at LVAC for 15 years, was fatally shot. Three additional people were taken to a local hospital, where one is in critical condition and the other two suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the latest update on Friday.
Police did not specify which officer or if all of the officers fired their weapons and hit the suspect.
