Oakley’s background begins in 1975 when Jim Jannard started a company selling motorcycle grips out of his car. The company was named after his English Setter, Oakley Anne. Jannard’s initial investment was just $300. Oakley quickly gained popularity, expanding beyond motorcycle grips to include goggles and sunglasses, eventually becoming a global leader in sports eyewear. In 2007, Oakley was acquired by Luxottica, a leading Italian eyewear manufacturer.
The company designs, develops and manufactures sports performance equipment and lifestyle pieces including sunglasses, safety glasses, eyeglasses, sports visors, ski/snowboard goggles, watches, apparel, backpacks, shoes, optical frames, and other accessories. Most items are designed in house at their head office, but some countries hold exclusive designs relevant to their market. Oakley currently holds more than 600 patents for eyewear, materials, and performance gear. Therefore, it’s obvious that Oakley is predominant throughout all sporting events.
Oakley sponsored members of the US Olympic Team in 2012, and that same year, extended the partnership through 2020. In March 2021, the Aston Martin F1 Team announced a partnership with Oakley.

The grand opening party served Moscow Mules as their signature drink along with a variety of white wines. Models in true Vegas style passed light bites. There was a photo booth station to try the latest eye wear and receive custom photos. Alex Sanchez, the store manager, formerly of Los Angeles, has called Las Vegas his home for the last three years and absolutely loves it! He said he was drawn to Oakley because he loves its unique niche in the sports performance world, and the futuristic look of the products.
Featured at the grand opening was the eyewear they called the “Straight Jacket”. Oakley Straight Jacket Sunglasses are polarized sunglasses that combine aggressive styling with the latest advances in performance technology. They have HD Polarized lenses that filter out 99% of reflected glare without haze and optical distortion. All that said they’re just really cool looking and comfortable and safe in the hot Las Vegas Sun! Oakley generously, gifted a pair to all who attended.
