LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A new affordable workspace is launching for Las Vegas artists in the Arts District where alcohol and art intertwine.
Barter Beer Mall, located near Wyoming Avenue and Commerce Street, officially opens April 19. It’s a one-of-a-kind spot that allows visitors to sip on a beverage while enjoying the arts and antique culture Las Vegas has to offer.
“We need to make a platform for our artists and local sellers because art is the true culture down here,” local jeweler, Liliauna Beckstrom told 8 News Now.
With dozens of vendors already lined up, artists now have another option when it comes to showcasing their work amid the ongoing struggle many face of being priced out of the Arts District all together. Co-owner, Suzanne Roozendaal explains.
“A few years ago, this was a place where we had a lot of antique stores and people could afford rent. Unfortunately, rent has come up so we’ve created a space where you can pay to rent and we bring in the customers by having a bar,” Co-owner, Suzanne Roozendaal explained.
Artists like Beckstrom are eager to become a part of it.
“Suzanne and I had discussions about opening up a store that was collaborative with antiques and artists and gallery space and now it’s a reality,” she said.
This 6,000-square-foot space has a bar at the entrance where people can get beer, wine, seltzer and snacks in addition to a little beer garden oasis in the center of it all for guests to enjoy while sitting outside.
“We wanted to make it a place where artists could sit and work, so it’s not just a place where they can sell their art, but also a place where they can create and show their art,” Roozendaal added.
As of now, Barter Beer Mall has vendor spaces available with three booth types:
- Classic: Floor and wall space used for antique collections. The starting rate is $3.25 per square foot
- Gallery space: Canvas-based mediums or posters. This space starts at $1.75 per square foot.
- Shelf: Hybrid space between booth and gallery as it allows for small trinkets and art, many handcrafted vendors prefer this booth type, and this starts at $2.25 per square foot.
Barter Beer Mall’s hours will be Sunday, Monday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
