LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — New video released Wednesday shows Las Vegas police responding and entering the home of Brandon Durham, 43, before an officer shot and killed him.
The videos, released as part of a records request from 8 News Now, show officers driving to Durham’s home on Nov. 11 after he called 911 to report an intruder.
Radio traffic recorded on officers’ body cameras reveals Durham relayed to police that at least one intruder was already inside his home as police arrived. Video from one responding officer shows him mentioning a broken window and brick in the street, leading him and another officer, Alexander Bookman, to enter the home.
Bookman broke down the front door and 14 seconds later, shot Durham, killing him.
Minutes earlier while on the phone with a 911 dispatcher, Durham said that he was inside his home with his 15-year-old daughter and said he was locking himself in the bathroom as the two people broke in.
Alejandra Boudreaux, 31, of Seattle, Washington, is accused of breaking into the home and attacking Durham, police said. In the seconds before the shooting, Durham and Boudreaux struggled over a knife, video shows.
Metro police released Bookman’s body camera video in the days after the shooting, which is the department’s standard protocol when investigating officer-involved deadly incidents.
Records the 8 News Now Investigators first obtained reveal officers were called to Durham’s home late on the evening of Nov. 10 — about 24 hours before the fatal shooting — for a disturbance. Durham, who was not home when he made the call around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, told police his “ex-friend” named “Marie” refused to leave, according to documents. “Marie” is Boudreaux’s middle name, according to records.
Metro leadership placed Bookman on paid administration leave pending an outcome of their internal investigation. Durham’s family has called for Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson to charge Bookman. The investigation remained ongoing as of Wednesday.
Last month, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Amy Wilson set Boudreax’s bail at $1 million on charges including disregarding the safety of a person resulting in death, and home invasion. She faces an additional lewdness charge after exposing her breast to an 8 News Now photographer in court.
