LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Two new multi-level housing units are on the way for the healthcare community of Las Vegas.
“They’ll be a series of apartment complexes that come into the medical district and we are working with a developer on a number of those units so that they are affordable,” Las Vegas City Councilman Brian Knudsen said.
The $80 million project, will be funded by a combination of city and federal funds in partnership with the Regional Transportation Commission. The project will include two units, both seven stories each with 400 units total located off Tonopah and Alta drives.

The mixed-use housing will also have retail space, restaurants, a gym, and even a possible daycare facility on the first floor.
UNLV dental students such as Grace Fralick told 8 News Now that when she first moved to Las Vegas, finding housing nearby was near impossible, she now lives about 20 minutes away from campus.
“It was definitely hard to find a place close to campus. I think I sort of decided, Oh well, it’s just going to be a daily commute for me then,” Fralick expressed.

Other students are pleased that new developments are on the way in the medical district.
“A gym would be really nice and maybe an area where we could go and study with outside tables and chairs,” Elijah Harr dental student at UNLV said.
Knudsen said he is very much aware of the needs in his district.
“It’s an island of healthcare professionals, surrounded by some of the oldest, most established neighborhoods,” Knudsen added. “It’s impossible for a medical student to afford to live in and around the medical district.”
Construction is expected to begin during the summer of 2025, with completion slated for 2028.
