Gov. Joe Lombardo appointed retired Major General Ondra L. Berry as the new chair of the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board, the state announced today.
Berry, who was first appointed to the board by Lombardo in January, brings a combination of military leadership and law enforcement experience to the role overseeing Nevada’s cannabis industry, officials said in a news release.
“I am confident he will provide strong leadership in enforcing, licensing, and ensuring public safety related to cannabis,” Lombardo said in a statement.
Berry retired last year after 38 years in the Nevada National Guard, where he served as Adjutant General from 2019 to 2024. He also spent 25 years with the Reno Police Department, rising to assistant police chief before leaving in 2005 for the private sector.
His corporate experience includes a position as senior vice president at MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas.
“Effective regulation is built by transparency, trust, and accountability,” Berry said in a statement. “It is my honor to see industry innovation and opportunity as public health and safety is protected.”
Berry replaces Adriana Guzmán Fralick, who served as chair from August 2023 through November 2025.
The Cannabis Compliance Board was created by the Nevada Legislature in 2019 and consists of five governor-appointed members with expertise in fields including finance, law enforcement medicine, and legal compliance.
