LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada Reading Week is set to kick off, and students across the valley are encouraged to dive into a good book.
Elementary schools across Southern Nevada, including Marion Earl Elementary School in Spring Valley, are launching Reading Week in a big way. This year’s theme is “Color Our World with Books”.
Students will celebrate the joy of reading by participating in a variety of activities while exercising their young minds, like reading, bingo, writing contests, and reading contests.
“They’ll be reading award-winning books, they’ll be writing poems, they’ll be, of course, dressing up for our spirit days,” Librarian Lisa Cabrera Terry said. “The goal is just to get our kids spending the time reading. Reading with their teacher, reading with a partner.”
There will also be an author series, where authors of some of their favorite books will read to them either in person or via Zoom, fostering a love of reading among future leaders.
“We have so many fun activities, and the goal really is to just get kids excited about books,” Terry said.
Marion Earl is inviting those in the community to become guest readers and to read to our future leaders.
Those interested in being a guest reader can reach out to Librarian Lisa Terry at cabrelp@nv.ccsd.net. Once approved, the guest reader can bring their favorite book or get one from the school library.
