LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A deadly shooting left some people with more questions than answers on Friday after police said a man was shot and killed in a northwest Las Vegas valley home that was also the site of a double murder 9 years ago.
“Oh it’s ongoing,” one neighbor told 8 News Now of continued issues in the neighborhood.
The woman, who did not want to share her name, spoke about Friday’s deadly shooting near Buffalo Drive and Lone Mountain Road.
“Once I see oh the street is blocked off,” she added. “They got the usual scenario, that was nothing new to me.”
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, two men got into an argument that led to gunfire just after 5:00 a.m. inside the home in the 4800 block of North Tioga Way.
Officers said one man died on scene, while the other was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
It’s the latest in what neighbors called a series of concerning situations at the same address.
“In the last few years it’s a periodic every six-eight months,” a neighbor continued. “Whatever, police cars.”
The anonymous woman who spoke with 8 News Now said she has lived in the area for 50 years.
She remembered the first time the same house made the news back in 2015 when a husband and wife were murdered and both their bodies were found inside.
The man who killed the husband and wife at the home in 2015, Mark Carpenter, was renting a room at the time, according to police.
He was convicted and sentenced in May of 2023, according to court documents.
Fast forward nine years and the woman said she is still trying to stop what she referred to as ongoing issues.
“What does it take, code violations?” she asked. “What is the avenue to making this not happen again?”
She said it was all to make sure this normally quiet spot could go back to feeling safe for her and others.
“Just the various situations that have occurred,” the woman concluded. “Is very noticeable.”
In regards to Friday’s shooting, police told 8 News Now they were not searching for any outside suspects.
Police said several other people were inside the home when the incident happened.
There was no word on whether they were living at the home or visiting at the time.
