LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The day after the shooting that took the life of North Las Vegas police officer Jason Roscow, the neighborhood where it happened was quiet.

Some neighbors replayed the events in their heads, others rewatched it on videos taken on their phones.

Videos like those taken by Roy Brown show the aftermath of the gunfire as the officer is treated by other responders. Brown, a minister who’s lived in the community for over 20 years, was about to step outside when shots rang out.

“Just as I went to touch the doorknob to open the door, that’s when I heard all the pow pow pow pow pow pow,” Brown said.

The noise of those gunshots is a rare sound in the neighborhood, according to resident Craig Gomez.

“It’s a good neighborhood,” Craig said. “It’s safe. We don’t have that. I think this was an isolated incident.”

The incident was a cause for concern and grief in the neighborhood.

“For something like that to happen, you know, everybody’s wondering, is it one of us? Because we are a family over here,” Brown said.

Roscow passed away at UMC, with a motorcade escorting him to the Clark County coroner’s office.

“This incident happened right there and, it’s going to always be with me,” Brown said. “That will stick in my mind, that officer, especially when I saw on the news that they said that he had passed away.”

Brown, hoping to find a positive from the situation, planned to use it as a way to demonstrate how precious life is in his ministry.
