LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — In one week, the G League Ignite Henderson’s official National Basketball Association minor league team will play its last game, the league announced Thursday.

In a press release, the NBA announced that the team would conclude its final season, adding that the decision to eliminate the Ignite was tied to the NCAA’s Name Image and Likeness (NIL) policy. The Henderson basketball team was launched in April 2020 and, as of Thursday, had a regular season record of 25 wins and 34 losses.

“Four years ago, we started Ignite to fill a void in the basketball landscape, and I’m proud of the contributions we were able to make to that ecosystem,” said Shareef Abdur-Rahim, NBA G League President. “With the changing environment across youth and collegiate basketball, now is the right time to take this step.  I want to extend my sincere gratitude to general manager Anthony McClish, head coach Jason Hart and their staff and to each player who wore an Ignite jersey.  As ever, the G League’s commitment to developing top NBA talent and helping players achieve their NBA dreams is unwavering.”

Nine Ignite alumni are current NBA players. Those players include Dyson Daniels, point/shooting guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, Jalen Green, shooting guard for the Houston Rockets, Scoot Henderson, point/shooting guard for the Portland Trail Blazers, and Jonathan Kuminga, power forward and center for the Golden State Warriors.

The team will play its final game on March 28 in Ontario, California against the Ontario Clippers. Its last home game at the Dollar Loan Center Arena in Henderson will be against the South Bay Lakers on March 25 at 7:00 p.m.
