Sphere Entertainment, operators of the Sphere in Las Vegas, says it is committed to nurturing the next generation through educational programs that bring cutting-edge technology and immersive learning to children.

Las Vegas will experience the power of this educational mission Saturday and Sunday with “Sphere Weekend” at Discovery Children’s Museum.

The event, included with regular museum admission, will feature hands-on activities that demonstrate the innovative technologies behind the Sphere’s immersive shows.

As part of the partnership, the Sphere donated $125,000 to support the museum’s youth education initiatives over the next five years, officials said in a news release.

“Everywhere that we have a presence, everywhere we have a location, we want to make sure that we’re part of the community,” said Rich Constable, executive vice president and global head of government relations and social impact at Sphere. “Here in Clark County, we want to make sure that the community knows that we’re just not a venue for, you know, folks to come and see amazing shows, but that we’re also committed to the greater Clark County area, and specifically, we’re committed to helping see our youth thrive and be better.”

The weekend activities are designed to inspire children to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Visitors can create their own version of Sphere’s emoji character Orbi, design digital animations inspired by the venue’s massive LED exterior screen, and build geodesic dome structures.

Other activities include coding interactive robots inspired by the Sphere’s humanoid spokesbot Aura, viewing artwork from student design challenge winners alongside pieces by renowned artists such as Shepard Fairey, and learning about renewable energy through a solar display.

“Our partnership with Sphere allows us to amplify our mission in an extraordinary way,” said Melissa Kaiser, CEO of the Discovery Children’s Museum in a statement. “Together, we’re creating a vibrant, hands-on experience that encourages innovation, critical thinking and imagination.”

The event is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Local admission is $15.

“We want to promote STEAM-related fields to the students in Clark County,” Constable said. “We want to expose them to that. We want to inspire them. And we think that this weekend at the Discovery museum is … going to do that. It’s going to awe and inspire young children to see what’s possible.”
