LAS VEGAS (KLAS) —  A man seen smashing windows was found dead at a nearby north Las Vegas valley apartment complex Saturday, police said.

On Aug. 17, around 5:30 a.m., officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 700 block of Jackson Avenue, near Martin Luther King Boulevard, after reports of a man with a pole smashing windows.

Moments later, another call described a man fitting the same description breaking windows at a nearby gas station, police said.

While responding, officers received a third call at around 6 a.m. about a man acting erratically and breaking windows at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of west Vegas Drive near Tonopah Drive, west of the intersection.

LVMPD officials said that upon arrival, officers found the man lying on the ground, unresponsive, with cuts and gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lieutenant Jason Johansson said that police believe an altercation at the apartment complex may have led to the gunshots being fired. No one has come forward as the person who was involved in the shooting.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the shooting to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or via email at homicide@lvmpd.com. Additionally, those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or via the organization’s website.
