LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man sustained serious burns after entering a burning house in the north Las Vegas valley on Saturday.

On Oct. 12 at around 5 a.m., the North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 3400 block of Edinboro Ridge Avenue, located near north Pecos Road and east Centennial Parkway.

Police reported that the people inside the home awoke to find their garage ablaze and were able to evacuate safely. However, one man reentered the house to try to put out the fire before the fire department arrived.

According to NLVFD, the man suffered serious burns to his hand and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

NLVFD crews quickly managed to contain the fire in the garage, however, the garage was significantly damaged. Police also confirmed that a family pet died due to smoke inhalation.
