LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A southeast Las Vegas valley neighborhood is frustrated following a string of recent mailbox break-ins.
“My client’s checks are getting taken. Our information is getting taken. My wife’s W2 got taken out of the mailbox with all of her information on it, so it’s a pretty severe issue,” Levi Ellyson told 8 News Now.
Ellyson said his mailbox has been tampered with four times over the last three years. The first incident took place in 2022, and the latest incident took place on March 28. He claimed that the footage showed the same vehicle and people showing up in his neighborhood approximately once a month.
“You can tell it’s something they do frequently,” Ellyson shared. “They’re very smooth, they’re very quick at it.”

Despite security precautions, such as additional locks, lights, and even ring cameras, the thieves remain undeterred.
“It does feel like you’ve been violated, your security has been compromised, now we’re investing in things like LifeLock so her social security is secure, and no one is trying to take her identity,” Ellyson expressed.
The homeowner reported the break-ins to both Las Vegas Metro police and the U.S. postal inspector. However, he expressed frustration with the lack of urgency to help solve the ongoing issue.
“It’s not just a single incident here at my house. It’s the entire mile section that’s affected. That’s multiple felony accounts, multiple felony charges on both mail fraud and check fraud,” he said. “It’s like it just keeps getting tossed aside because it’s not high value for them.”
8 News Now reached out to both USPS and Metro police for comment.
Metro deferred to the postal inspector and said “LVMPD can assist them if requested.” Meanwhile, the postal inspector said they are aware of the incident and are actively investigating it.
“Unfortunately, mail theft continues to be an issue for the local community and is reflective of overall crime,” police told 8 News Now.
