LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Animal Foundation announced Thursday that it is still at critical capacity with over 800 animals at the shelter. In order to lower the number of animals on its campus, the shelter is waiving fees for all adoptable animals.

According to a post on the shelter’s Facebook page, the Animal Foundation has 834 animals in the shelter after taking in 138 animals on Wednesday, although the shelter did adopt out 55 animals that same day.

A post made earlier in the week said that over 500 of the animals in the shelter were dogs.

The foundation said it desperately needs fosters and adopters for medium and large dogs in order to keep the shelter population at a manageable level.

Adoptions take place on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-in traffic, beginning at 11 a.m. According to the shelter’s website, they do not place holds on pets.

The shelter is waiving adoption fees for all adoptable animals on campus, although a $10 license fee may apply.

Those interested in fostering can save time by filling out a foster application before they arrive.

The shelter asks that those interested in fostering or adopting do not bring their current pets to the shelter as they do not allow in-shelter dog-to-dog introductions.

The Animal Foundation said if you can’t foster or adopt, you can still help the animals by:

  • Donate gently used crates, collars, leashes, and linens to the shelter.
  • If your lost pet is at the shelter, come reclaim them ASAP. They can usually help with reclaim fees.
  • Donate from its urgent need wish list. You’ll find it at this link.
