LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — It was a packed house at the Shadow Hills Church as Rock Springs Vista residents were up in arms over the potential HOA fee increase coming to their doorstep next year.
“When I moved in 18 months ago, it was around $200,” Scot Levine shared with 8 News Now. “Then it increased to $250 and come this January it will be $416, we can’t afford that,” he added.
That’s a 168% increase for an area that covers nearly 600 condos that of which residents say offers limited amenities at that.
“It doesn’t make sense for what we get. We have a pool and one of them doesn’t even work. We don’t even have a gate or onsite security. There’s no justification for it,” Levine added.
This increase could potentially displace hundreds including senior citizens forcing them to find housing elsewhere. Mary Bryndle lives on a fixed income and said she feels as if she is being pushed out.
“We have a large number of social security residents and that’s their only income. It’s basically half of their morgage,” she added.
The HOA members weren’t available for comment at the meeting, but residents share that they were told this increase would go towards maintaining the property and fixing piping.
The majority of residents were forced to leave the meeting due to being over capacity and not having enough space for all the attendees.
In the end, the increase was passed by the board and now residents are left figuring out their next move.
This is the fourth HOA fee increase for these residents and the third this year alone.
Additionally, a petition has been circulating to request the resignation of the existing board president.
