LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson spoke with southeast Las Vegas residents about the uptick of gang activity and tagging in the area.
“We’ve seen an increase,” Gibson told 8 News Now. “People have been reporting to us and we’ve seen it ourselves more than ever before,” he added.
Detective C. Stiles, with Metro’s Gang Investigation Unit, described the types of gangs prevalent across the valley from “18th Street” to “JRM” and what type of tagging they typically do.

With gang culture evolving throughout the years, the detective noted that not all members fit the stereotype.
“They’re not always going to be covered in tattoos so there’s no good way to really tell, you can’t assume,” Stiles shared.
Those in attendance on Tuesday were pleased that the issue is on law enforcement’s radar. Those in the area, taking it upon themselves to secure their property in the midst of the vandalism.

“It helped reaffirm that, yes, we are seeing the uptick, and that police are aware of what’s going on,” Amy Beaulieu shared.
“I know we all have video cameras up around our house for extra security so that has helped in the neighborhood,” she added.
