LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced on Thursday the loss of a Narcotics K9 officer who passed after a medical episode.

According to a post on X, K9 Officer Ash was rushed to a critical care veterinary hospital after he suffered a medical episode on June 4.

Initially, Ash was stabilized, but his condition deteriorated over several hours. On June 5, Ash passed away. He was a dedicated narcotics detection dog for nearly 10 years, and competed in the 2019 K9 Trials.

According to the post, Ash finished second in vehicle searches in the trials.

Police said the veterinarian is trying to determine the origin of the medical issue. As of Thursday, the cause was still unclear.

“Ash will be missed by everyone who worked with him, and especially by his partner and handler,” LVMPD wrote in the post.
